At WrapZone we create our wraps using tortillas that are typically made with wheat flour. The gluten in the flour gives the tortilla its stretchiness which is important to prevent cracking or breaking when making our wraps. We also carry gluten-friendly tortillas as well as our rice bowls and ‘unwraps’ which contain all of the filling of any of our wraps but are served in a bowl.

What Is Gluten?
Gluten is a protein found in certain grains that helps foods such as breads stick together. It is responsible for the elastic-like texture of dough, and can have very adverse effects on people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities. Not all grains contain gluten. The most common grains that do have gluten include wheat, barley and rye.

Why Avoid Gluten?
There are three main reasons people choose to avoid gluten in the diets: celiac disease, gluten sensitivity and a desire to eat lighter, healthier foods. Some people just have a gluten sensitivity or intolerance. If you are gluten sensitive, your body produces an abnormal response when breaking down gluten during digestion. You may feel some discomfort from eating foods with gluten, but overall your health is not at risk from consuming it.

Celiac disease is an extreme version of gluten intolerance that causes an immune reaction to eating gluten. Eating gluten with celiac disease causes an immune response that damages the intestines and prevents you from absorbing vital nutrients. This can lead to other medical complications.

Other people simply choose not to eat gluten because they feel healthier without it. Some athletes have gone so far as to attribute a gluten free diet with their improved athleticism.
